This stuff works great
It’s subtle but after the three coats that are recommended it makes the wood gorgeous! Really emphasizes the grain. Just makes my woodcarving pop. There really isn’t a smell unless you put your nose right to it. Super easy to use - pour and wipe. In the picture one of the left is a new project, not with oil. And the one on the right has 2 passes of oil.
This was the first coat we used on our birch kitchen countertops. We did the entire kitchen in wood countertops, not just an island. We started with a coat of this and then finished with the beeswax and walnut oil paste from the same manufacturer. Nontoxic, does not smell bad, food safe. We reapplied the beeswax paste periodically (every month or so). Initially, you do need to wipe up any water drops immediately or you will get water spots. A reapplication of the paste works to cover those. We first applied this and the beeswax-walnut oil paste in January 2026 (top and bottom of the countertop before installation) and since then have applied the paste several times on the top whenever the wood looks dry. Over time, the protection for water spots seems to be getting better. We have gotten in the habit of wiping down the area around the sink every time we use it. May not be as durable if you have kids who don't remember to do that. This photo is after the most recent reapplication in April 2026. We use glass cutting boards to cut and prep food, not the wood countertop itself.
My wood cutting boards needed some tlc and this did the trick!
